Getting Girls Off the Sidelines

TeamSports4Girls is a dedicated initiative within TeamSports4All — part of the work we do to get financially disadvantaged kids connected into their community. While TS4A supports all children experiencing financial hardship to play and stay in community sport, TeamSports4Girls exists to tackle the specific challenges faced by girls who are being left behind at alarming rates.

Across Australia, participation is sky-high in the early years, yet by the age of 15, most girls have stopped playing organised sport. Cost, confidence, access, uniforms, transport, cultural expectations — the barriers stack up quickly, and girls drop out far more often than boys.

TeamSports4Girls ensures they don’t.

What TeamSports4Girls Provides

Through this program, girls receive the full support TS4A is known for:

  • Registration fees covered

  • Uniforms, footwear, and essential equipment

  • Connection to welcoming community clubs

  • Wrap-around support, including monthly family check-ins

  • Funding across multiple seasons, so girls can stay in the game long term

And thanks to TS4A’s decade of partnerships with clubs and community organisations, every dollar stretches further, meaning we can support more girls every year.

Why a Dedicated Program for Girls?

While TS4A is committed to supporting all financially disadvantaged children, the data is clear on the need for specific focus on girls too:

  • Girls drop out of sport at a much higher rate.

  • Financial pressure disproportionately affects girls in low-income households.

  • Confidence barriers and lack of visibility hit girls harder.

  • Uniform, safety and cultural factors can all discourage participation.

TeamSports4Girls directly addresses these challenges by giving girls the resources, role models and support they need to stay active, build confidence, and feel a strong sense of belonging.

TeamSports4Girls Lunch

A highlight of our calendar is the inaugural TeamSports4Girls Lunch!

A powerful gathering that celebrates women in sport and raises crucial funds to help disadvantaged girls play and stay in their local clubs.

Held at IKON Park on 27 November, the event brings together leaders, athletes and supporters for an afternoon of connection, storytelling and impact.

We are thrilled to have AFL Executive Laura Kane speaking as keynote, and an elite female athlete on every table.

The luncheon showcases the strength of women supporting women and the life-changing difference community sport can make, and directly fuels the TeamSports4Girls program, playing a vital role in getting more girls off the sidelines and into the game!
