Meet one of our families

We received a referral from a local school about a family who had recently moved to Melbourne from another state and struggling to make ends meet. Starting at a new school and getting used to a new area is never easy and the school social worker felt that community sport would benefit this family greatly. We were more than happy to help so went along to meet the family. Saying the girls were eager to meet us would be a huge understatement! As we chatted about what sport the girls were keen on it became apparent that footy was their number one choice. When we told them that it was very likely we could get them into a team and very likely that they could play on the coming weekend the reaction from both girls was shock then pure joy and excitement. From our end we had 3 days to get them registered and kitted up so they were ready to meet their new team mates and coaches. Once a team was confirmed we registered the girls then looked through our donated equipment list and allocated the required items. The following day we went back to the family with two bags with everything they needed thanks to the generous donations from our community. Within 5 minutes the girls had their full uniforms on; looking fantastic and busting for Sunday to arrive so they could play. As mentioned above it really does take a village. This mum does not have a car so this is where our incredible village comes in. We now have the coach and team manager from each team share the collection of the girls and their mum to drop them at training and away games. These girls could not be part of these teams if it wasn’t for these generous parents.

What we do

We help families experiencing severe financial hardship to get their kids playing sport.

Due to their situation they can’t afford the costs to have their children involved in community team sport.

With the cost of living continuing to rise, the need for our services is higher than ever.

We meet the families, connect them with a club, pay their fees & uniform costs, and most importantly give them ongoing support.
